Nightly Campfire Cookouts

“The fire is the main comfort of the camp, whether in summer or winter, and is about as ample at one season as at another. It is as well for cheerfulness as for warmth and dryness.”~ Henry David Thoreau

And, of course, there is the campfire. Whether it's outside in the fire pit, or in the center of the tipi, it’s hard to let a night go by without one.

Sometimes we'll have everyone participate in preparing a meal, fresh bread, or gooey dessert using a variety of Dutch ovens around, and in, the campfire. Other times we'll roast s’mores over it, sing around it, or just watch the flames dance to the haunting sounds of the drums (you can count on the kids to get out those newly made drums).

Serenaded by coyotes and mama buffalo grunting to their calves - it just doesn’t get any better than this.
